Why We Do What We Do—and How We Ended Up Here

It’s Adriana here (yep, the one who keeps sending you these emails!). Along with my husband Guillermo and my brother Alejandro, we run Crickle Creek Coffee—our family-operated roastery here in Calgary.
Some of you already know us, and some of you might be drinking our coffee every day. But what you might not know is why we do what we do—or how we ended up here.
Alejandro, Guillermo, and I all grew up in coffee farming families, where conversations about harvests, weather, prices, and soil health were just part of daily life. Coffee is in our blood. As fourth-generation farmers, we’ve experienced the coffee journey from the inside out.
Nearly three years ago, we were laying the groundwork to start our own roastery here in Calgary when life surprised us with something even better—Crickle Creek. It had been serving the community with amazing coffee since 1994, and it was exactly the kind of roastery we had envisioned: focused on quality, freshness, and community. So, we jumped in and acquired it with both feet… and maybe a little extra caffeine.
Today, Alejandro leads our coffee selection (and keeps the spreadsheets from taking over), Guillermo heads up PR and wholesale with his signature warmth and charm, and I run marketing and operations—making sure everything runs smoothly (and that your inbox never gets too lonely!).
Why we do this? We don’t just roast coffee—we live it. We know our farmers because we are farmers. We roast to order every Tuesday because fresh coffee makes all the difference. And we believe coffee is a personal journey—everyone has different preferences, and finding your perfect match has the power to turn a simple moment into something extraordinary.
That’s why when people ask, “Which beans are for espresso?” we always say, “Any of them—if you love it!” Espresso is a brewing method, not a type of bean. We don’t divide our coffees by brew style because we love leaving room for exploration. Whether you’re pulling a shot with our El Salvador Pacamara or making a pour-over with our macleod, it’s about discovering what you enjoy most.
And the same goes for our roasting styles. We offer a variety—from medium to dark—because we know many of you love the bold, rich flavors of a darker roast. We’re not here to tell you what’s trendy; we’re here to make sure you’re loving every sip.
At Crickle Creek, we’re here to help you brew boldly and live fully—because life’s too short for boring coffee.
Thanks for being part of our story (and for reading another one of my emails ).
Warmly,
Adriana and the Crickle Creek Team
