This coffee is from Central Sumatera Coffee Estate, which operates a 100-hectare farm in Bener Meriah, Aceh Province, Sumatra. There, the young leadership of the estate meticulously controls genetics, harvesting, and post-harvest techniques. As a result, this coffee is well-sorted, sweeter, and cleaner in the cup, while still exhibiting the unique heft and minerality characteristic of traditional wet-hull processing.
This coffee is made of beans from the Typica and Abyssinia varieties, making them unique in the region. The Abyssinia cultivar is an Arabica lineage that traces its roots first to Java and then directly back to Ethiopia. Both varietals closely resemble one another physically, and both gene pools are known for their narrow, long, bean-like shape.
Expect a delightful Sumatra coffee that is full bodied and muted in acidity. The cup brings forward notes of Pinneaple, Hibiscus and Peat.
