Episode VI: The Coffee Journey

Episode VI: The Coffee Journey

Greetings, coffee enthusiasts! ☕️ Today, we're thrilled to share our farm activities since June, with a focus on fertilization - the heart of our thriving coffee trees.

We've completed two rounds of fertilization, using our nutrient-rich compost mix, Bokashi, in April and May. Additionally, we carefully planned three applications of more traditional albeit high-quality fertilizer, ensuring each tree received about 4 ounces of fertilizer three times a year!

Fertilization is essential to replenish nutrients and ensure healthy trees and abundant yields. We use a specialized slow-release fertilizer with vital elements like Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, plus essential micro-elements. Though costlier, it ensures better results and sustainability, avoiding washouts during heavy downpours.

The 14-day fertilization process is manual due to our rugged terrain. We hire additional help, doubling our workforce to 50 employees. We transport the fertilizer from our warehouse to the fields, where it's skillfully spread around each tree.

Next and final fertilization occurs in August and September, keeping our coffee trees happy and thriving! We're also busy replanting new areas, with a team planting 100 new coffee trees daily.

Stay tuned for more updates on our journey, and enjoy some pictures from the farm! 📸

On the next delivery, we will touch on foliar spray applications, especially those related to fungicides against leaf rust. Until next time, keep savouring that coffee magic!

Happy August!

Alejandro
